Happy Saint
Patrick's Day!!
A big salute from
Big Frank to the Leghowney Cassidys on Fifth Avenue on March 17,
2006. (Right)
Congratulations to
Frank for being named Irish Man of the Year in Northern Westchester
County.
In July
alumnae and alumni of Copany School and the neighboring rural schools
held a week of reunion events and published an
outstanding book, "Schools of Yesteryear". The book is full of
photos, stories and student lists going back to the 1800's.
Many of our ancestors are included in the photos and lists.
Our own Hugh
(Horner) Cassidy (shown above) was instrumental in putting this
project together. He and his brother John wrote essays for the
book, which included memories of our relatives and neighbors.
We hope to include excerpts on a future update of our web site.
Lost and Found
Our cousin, Mary Margaret Cassidy of Somerville, Massachusetts discovered our web site
and e-mailed us after discovering that she was the "mentioned but
unnamed niece" in the Young Fella Story. She passed along some
historical info which solved the mystery of how we are related to
the Gallaghers and Gormans of New York. Mary Margaret's
grandmother was Mary Anne Gallagher
Cassidy, who was married to Edward Cassidy, the brother of James (my
grandfather). We were delighted to be reunited with Mary
Margaret and Sean Cassidy (Cape Cod) and his wife Jackie on Saint
Patrick's weekend (the I93 breakdown lane reunion).

The Break Down
Lane Reunion
On March 19, the
Boston Cassidy's awaited the arrival of cousins that some of us last
saw in the 1950's 1960's, 1970's or never met at all. We
looked forward to being reunited with Cassidys from Leghowney,
Dublin, Cape Cod when alas we got the cell phone call from Sean Cape
Cod that the visitors were stuck two miles away on Route 93.
So, the long awaited meeting took place in the breakdown lane, where
proper greetings had to be shortened. Eventually, all arrived
in Wilmington, where John Horner brought us back to Leghowney by
playing jigs and reels on his son's accordion. Joanne Shea
wowed us with heavenly song (American Idol) and James Horner sang an
authentic Irish ballad. Guests raved about Marie Costello's
Irish bread. Scotty organized the putting contest for the
benefit of Chris's marathon sponsor (Leukemia, Lymphona Society).
But due to the cold weather, bumpy green and onset of darkness the
only winner was the charity.
Most of all there
was chat about Cassidys from Leghowney, Auglim, and Meedadreen,
Murphys, Devlins, Larkins, Mundys and others related to us.
It was a great St. Patrick's Day.
There are more St.
Patrick's Day photos on

Blog
We have received
some encouraging comments about our web site and one
suggestion- that we update more often. We will endeavor to do
so. Now that we have a lot of new material we will try to post it in
over the next few months so keep logging on. And don't
hesitate to send us copies of family photos and stories.
All the best,
Don
